Audio-Technica brings its iconic wood design to ATH-WP900 portable headphones

Audio-Technica has been making stunning wood high-end headphones for 1 / 4 of a century – its first were the ATH-W10VTG in 1996 – and fortunately (as a result of we're but to listen a nasty pair), it does not seem to be calling it an afternoon on that specific production line. The Japanese audio emblem has simply introduced the European availability of the new ATH-WP900 portable headphones with flame maple housings.

The company has used many types of woods for its extra home-friendly over-ears previously, such as the Japanese striped ebony hardwood Kokutan for the ATH-AWKT and Asada Zakura birch for the ATH-AWAS, and now maple has been selected for its combination of stiffness and density, qualities that lead them to just right candidates for string tools similar to guitars and violins. Speaking of string tools, each unique flame maple-finished housing is created by way of Japanese guitar manufacturer Fujigen.

The ATH-WP900 promise to accompany their appealing aesthetics with the sonic items too, with their 53mm large diameter driver, covered in diamond-like carbon. A high-power magnet is designed to supply "superlative low-range audio", whilst the foam-packed, synthetic leather-finished ear pads and swivel ear cup design had been made with long listening periods and portability in mind.

Detachable A2DC connectors be offering excessive sound quality and sturdiness, too, and incorporated within the field, as well as to a wearing pouch, are removable 3.5mm (3-pole stereo mini-plug) and balanced 4.4mm (5-pole balanced mini-plug) cables.

The Audio-Technica ATH-WP900 headphones are to be had in the United Kingdom and Europe from March, priced £599 (€699).
